This was the second day of building. The first day she brougth mud in for the first layer then just layed down a little straw and then let it dry. This way the mud is cemented to the log and will not fall off or blow off.
A big mouthful of mud which she kept taking from near the outside water hose that had been on that day. The earth was nice and moist there.
Lots of mud used to build the nest.
Bringing in more material to complete the nest.
She is really packing it deep here. Also once she had her babies as they grew I watched her actaully take mud out from the bottom of the nest to make room for her growing family.
Packing the nest a little deeper using her belly. She would huddle down in there and just flop her body back and forth.
The nest is done. It took her four days to build this.
She laid four eggs two days after the nest was done.
They are constantly hungry.
A mouthful for her babies.
This robin has a fecal sac in its mouth. This is how they keep the nest clean by removing this waste.
Fetching worms for the young.
The last little baby in the nest. The parents took one at a time out into the woods. This was the last one to go.
