Biography
|
At 16 years old, I learned about gardening. Growing tomatoes, picking wild blueberries, hunting for thimbleberries, collecting sugar plums and maple sap for syrup. I ate my first pasty, my first prune tart, and my first brook trout and my first lake superior white fish baked. Words can not describe the Traprock Valley and Keweenaw County like pictures capture moments of these wonderful places north. The traditions that are remembered continue to enchant me and I dream of returning one day to the land where expressions like these make sense; Karhu kaantaa kylkea (The bear rolls over to the other side, meaning winter is half over), Talven selka taittuu (Winter's back breaks), and Keikki heinaa jakaa (Heikki divides the hay).
