1997 visit to U.P. we were 1 week early so could not tour underground. Need to get U.P. soon.Have always wanted to see Quincy below surface.

For what you see and the information given, it's the best underground tour in the UP. I'm sure it's the same tour as when I was there, so they would take you from the very beginning at Quincy in 1846 to when it closed in 1945. Excellent tour....

The original Quincy workings were NW aross HWY 41. Is there any connection with them or were they filled in?

The "original" original workings were indeed across 41 when Quincy started in 1846 and they worked this are for mass copper until about 1855 when they discovered the Pewabic Lode crossing their property on the south side of 41. In 1856 Quincy shifted their operations fully to Lode copper and in the process filled in the old shafts and pits.
