It was once a K-8 grade school, I among many of other people went to school here in my younger days. It is the Heikkinen School in Toivola, MI

I always liked those yellow asters that Mr. Wisti had growing next to the door. What were they anyway? I appreciate the Tormalas keeping the rest of us Stumpjumpers supplied with pictures of home.

I've wondered about those yellow flowers too, so I contacted Luann Penny, a most reliable source. The answer? "I don't know!" She said they have been there as long as ANYONE can remember. Perhaps they were planted by the settlers. She was told these flowers are related to the chrysanthemum.
The yard has been stampede-free since 1999 and the flowers have taken advantage of the opportunity to add, multiply and divide.
The building is now owned by Dale and Luann Penny. They have done an excellent job in preserving this historical hub of the community.
Tours are available by appointment. It is definately a worthwhile trip down memory lane.
