Brita, where is this in Fulton? I used to live on Central Street, right across the street from the ice rink. Is the ice rink still there?

This is on Central Street!! We live on the end closest to 12th St. in a ranch house that's for sale right now. We're going to build right on the edge of town, so we're not going far. This clothesline is my neighbor's. The ice rink is not there any more, but I've heard about it. Was it in a spot that collected snow and made it hard to keep clean? I think that's why they stopped making it.

Yes Brita, it was in the field across the street from 61 or 63 Central Street, don't remember which address is correct, but the house was a duplex and Mamie & "Buckshot" Jurmu lived on the other side of the duplex. The ice rink did collect a lot of snow, no trees or anything around it, and a couple of times each year they had to use a front end loader to removed the snow after some of the blizzards!!! Plus it was a "natural" ice rink, not artificial, so it took a lot of work to maintain it. I don't remember the names of the other streets in the area, but, if you were coming down Fulton Avenue, instead of following the road to the left, you kept going straight, then turned left on Central Street. We were the third or fourth house on the left and the rink was on the right. Like I said, it was a field back then, 38 years ago!!!!! Thanks for responding, Brita.

I know just where you're talking about because Mamie and her husband still live there! We're up a block on the other end of the street. There's a house that just got built a few years ago right next to your old house. Kind of squeezed in there. The rink must have been right next to the park. Was that there then? I often take my kids there. In fact, the pictures that I just put up, of my boys in the apple trees, were taken at that park.

My gosh, I can't believe Mamie still lives in that house!! There was no park there back in the old days, just the rink and a field. When I see my Mom this weekend I'll ask her if she still has pictures that we took when we lived there and I'll post them in my gallery.

Please post them! I'd love to see them!
